Overview

These five-seater SUVs are versatile vehicles perfect for families, offering a comfortable ride with refined handling characteristics. Regardless if you are a new or experienced driver, these two options will be easy to drive, and their active safety features will assist you on the road. Although these two SUVs are similar, their feature offerings differ between trims. We will break down these two vehicle's features and trims below to give you the information you need about which vehicle is best.

Engine & Drivetrain Comparison

The Crosstrek has a standard 2.0-litre four-cylinder Boxer engine producing 152 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque, mated to a full-time all-wheel-drive as the only drivetrain option. Higher trims make available the 2.5-litre four-cylinder Boxer engine capable of 182 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque. For the transmissions, the Crosstrek has a six-speed manual only available for the 2.0-litre engine, while the CVT automatic is an option for either engine.

Similarly, the CX-30 has a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine as its base option with 155 horsepower and 150 lb-ft of torque, while the upgraded 2.5-litre engine delivers 186 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. Although slightly higher output than the Crosstrek, the CX-30 has a front-wheel-drive drivetrain as standard, with an available all-wheel-drive on the highest GT trim. Driving the wheels is its six-speed automatic transmission across all trims. Overall the Crosstrek matches the CX-30's offerings and delivers the all-wheel-drive as standard, making it a better value.

Available Trim Comparison

For trims, you can choose between Crosstrek's five trims: Convenience, Touring, Outdoor, Sport and Limited. These trims also have variants that offer the EyeSight driver-assist technologies for additional safety on the road. As standard, you will have 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, automatic climate control, Apple CarPlay and Andriod Auto.

On the CX-30, there are three trims: GX, GS and GT. In comparison, the base model features 16-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, manual climate control, Apple CarPlay and Andriod Auto. The CX-30 lacks standard options, but it has the Crosstrek's options available for higher trims.

Safety Comparison

The Crosstrek's base Convenience trim with the CVT transmission has the EyeSight safety features as standard. You can expect your Crosstrek to have a rearview camera, pre-collision braking, adaptive cruise control, lane centring assist, lane departure warning, lane sway warning, lane-keep assist and lead vehicle start alert.

Standard safety features for the CX-30 consist of an electronic parking brake, rearview camera, hill launch assist, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. Available safety options include adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition, smart brake support for front and rear. For safety, the Crosstrek makes its features as standard with the EyeSight package, while the CX-30 matches the features but at a higher trim offering making it more expensive to get access to these features.
